LOCALS - Alex Hill, Yeti DJ
21 January 2014 | By fyldesmurfOur popular LOCALS feature is back, this week we catch up with Alex Hill, the captain of Exeter Uni DH Club, and all round pinner, who rides his Yeti DJ over whatever he points it at.
Name: Alex Hill
Location: Exeter/ Twekesbury
Job: Student and DH Captain in the University of Exeter Cycling Club, but it’s not exactly a ‘job’!
Bike: Yeti DJ
How long have you been riding?
I think it is coming up to 10 years riding: 3 XC, 7 DH.
How often do you ride?
Without fail I’ll be riding at least once a week. Some weeks it’s possible for me to get out 4 times which is pretty sick.
What bike are you currently riding and talk us through your set up?
Yeti DJ, Revelations, Shimano Gears/Brakes, Renthal Bars and chris king/spank wheelset. Coming back from a season in Whistler the DH bike was way too much effort for English trails; hardtails are just perfect and being able to ride dirtjumps and Skateparks one day then flat out DH the next is awesome.
What types of riding do you normally do?
DH. Always. Can’t beat it, but I do ride cross-country and road occasionally. At the moment I’m making a fool out of myself at the Exeter BMX track and skatepark most weeks too.
What was the last new bit of gear on your bike?
Errr… Shimano Saint cranks.
What are your local trails?
Down in Exeter you’ll see me up Haldon Café side with the University bike club. Back home I tend to mess around at the Forest of Dean and Leckhampton Hill. Come say hello!
What's your favourite part on your bike?
There’s a favourite part? Errr…How about the brakes? They’re pretty useful for stopping

What other bikes do you own?
Just a road bike! Barely ride it too but slowly edging my girlfriend into it, which will defiantly make me ride it more! Can’t really ride with the road club as I would probably annoy them too much; what is this ‘etiquette’? I’ll always choose skids, wheelies and t-boning mates riding downhill.
Cheers Alex!
